There are several methods for copying a remote device, depending on your needs and the "depth" of the copy you want.
To Make a "Shallow" Copy
The following steps explain how to make a partially copied remote device from the existing Remote Devices. Both the source remote device and the resulting target remote device must be in the same Device Definition Service (DDS).
Depending on your specific needs, you might also need to add facility attributes, to add new points, and to rebuild your existing group hierarchy.
To Make a Single "Deep" Copy of a Remote Device
The following steps explain how to make a more completely copied remote device than in the procedure above. Both the source remote device and the resulting target remote device must be in the same Device Definition Service (DDS).
Depending on your specific needs, you might also need to add facility attributes, to add new points, and to rebuild your existing group hierarchy.
To Make Multiple "Deep" Copies of a Remote Device
You can make multiple "deep" copies of a single remote device simultaneously. Both the source remote device and the resulting target remote devices must be in the same Device Definition Service (DDS). For more information, see Device Copy Utility.
To Import/Export Remote Device Settings in an XML File
Another option for copying devices is to use the DDS import/export capabilities. This is especially useful for copying a device configuration from one DDS to another. Additionally, exported device configuration XML files can be stored in separate folders as backup records of current device configurations. For more information, see Exporting and Importing Devices.
